"He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver."

Malachi 3:3 says:

"He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver."

This verse puzzled some women in a Bible study and they wondered what this statement meant about the character and nature of God.

One of the women offered to find out the process of refining silver and get back to the group at their next Bible Study.

That week, the woman called a silversmith and made an appointment to watch him at work. She didn't mention anything about the reason for her interest beyond her curiosity about the process of refining silver.
As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest as to burn away all the impurities.

The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot; then she thought again about the verse that says:"He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver."

She asked the silversmith if it was true that he had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined.

The man answered that yes, he not only had to sit there holding the silver, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver was left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed.

The woman was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith, "How do you know when the silver is fully refined?"

He smiled at her and answered,
"Oh, that's easy -- when I see my image in it."

If today you are feeling the heat of the fire, remember that God has His eye on you and will keep watching you until He sees His image in you.

New Facebook Application test.

Just checking to see if I got this application right. My computer says "it's 99 feels like 108 " Went swimming with David and Ryan while "girls" had wedding shower at their house. Ryan is getting more adventurous in the pool. He has a "Puddle Jumper" floating device that fits on his chest and arms. He goes splashing and kicking and blowing bubbles.

72nd birthday last Wednesday. Lasted longer than anyone of my progenators. Sister, Sherrill, still with us. She is 3 years older than I. Strange weather this year. 95 degrees one day and rain the next. High in 80's even on rainy days. Still making good use of apt. swimming pool. Spent the day at Cole's house yesterday. Cole & Ellen getting read for Nic & Krista's wedding shower this afternoon. David is going to Florida next week to work on trainers his company sold to military. Cole is going to spend a few days with him while Ryan stays with David's parents. I have a Dr.'s appt. Monday. Diabetes out of control. Probably have to start insulin shots. Don't like to poke myself. It's either that or body breakdown. Maybe they will find a cure or less intrusive control soon.

Worked in Food Bank Thursday. No one there when we got there a little after noon. Morning workers all out of town. We helped 23 families Thursday afternoon. Would have been over 40 families if someone had worked in the morning. Hope everyone in need got helped. There are many other agencies that have food pantries but I think we are one of the most available ones. (We are open more hours a week than most.)

Ellen and I will go to Carbondale church tomorrow evening to hear Doug preach. They rotate some of the men in the congregation to preach on Sunday evening.

Doug has almost completed a new transformer bustron. More involved than first one and will actually transform from bus to robot. Doug and family just got back from Chicago area where they took "Bustron I". The 'tron' gets lots of attention wherever they go. Corporate HQ seems really pleased with Doug's creations.

It rained during the night. Looking out the apartment front window I see pairs of squirrels playing chase in the trees and apartment roof-tops. Our apartment complex looks like a state park lodge with 100 apartments and many oak and pine trees and many varities of shrubs and flowers. The birds and squirrels love it. We also have mallard ducks that visit the pond on the property.

Retirement is great and we will continue to injoy each day as long a the SS checks keep coming in. Thanks to all you young taxpayers.

NEWS FLASH:
It's hot out there! Just in case someone is in Alaska or the South Pole or hasn't been out of the house in a month. We try to stay inside out of the 90+ weather but venture out once in a while to go to church, the grocery store or work in the food bank. I worked in the food bank Tuesday morning and Thursday afternoon. Had over 40 families come in during each of the 2.5 hour shifts. There are 2 shifts a day on Monday thru Thursday. The economy isn't getting much better around here. I'm just glad God has blessed the Park Plaza brethren with open hearts and liberal pockets.

We have really enjoyed having the grandsons over frequently to cool off in the Apartment pool. We sure miss not being able to see our other son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter but keep praying that things will improve in that area.

Doug and Nic took the Bustron robot see previous post) to a bus manufacturers meeting in Arlington, Tex. last weekend. I think Doug and the bot go to Chicago this weekend. We still get to keep Stone on Mondays and Tuesdays this summer. Guess he will be in school this fall so that will end the weekly visits.

Ryan is growing like a weed, talking and singing the alphabet. Cole is keeping busy and has won the "Biggest Lower" prize with the weight control group at church. She hooks Ryan in a trailer behind her bike and goes 6 miles or more even in this heat.

Stone is 3 yoa now and talking up a storm. sometimes sulls up when I don't let him have his way but he comes by it natural. Got brave enough to stand alone on shallow end of pool last week. Will probably swim before end of summer.

David is going back to Florida next week to work on the flight safety trainers they sold earlier this year.

Nic and Krista are getting married in August so the engaged and their mothers are buzzing around getting ready for the big event. Father of the groom doesn't have to do much so I'm just chillin' till the day.

Guess El & I will get up early and go to the farmers' market (hippy style) before it gets too hot Saturday morning. We may take a dip in the pool when we get back.

God bless you all.

Brooks & Dunn - Believe

I was driving down Yale the other day on the way to the Food Bank when I came across this song on the car radio. I had heard it before but not in quite a while. Brooks & Dunn are spliting up I hear. I think this song will be around for a long long while.

Stone here this morning. Ryan will join him this PM. They are like a pond full of otters when they get together. They lough and run and play (and fight and take things from each other) and take baths and nap and eat and hug and cry when they have to go home.
It has been raining almost every day for over a week. Today is overcast but sun is trying to break through. This morning we got to go for a walk with Stone. When ever he gets outside, he has to find a stick(s) and shoot everything. After our walk Stone and Ellen drew chalk pictures on the walk in front of our apt. Now they are going to the store to get something for Stone.
Last Thursday we didn't get to work at the Food Bank because a storm the night before knocked out the electricity at the church building. Found out Sunday that the power had come back on around noon Thursday but no one told us at the time. Got a call from Foodbank Deacon's wife asking us to work Wednesday afternoon. Guess that makes up for last week. Guess will get double pay for this LOL
Ryan came over around three and stayed until about 10 while Nichole had Bunko at her house. Stone left about 5:30. We won't see him again until Monday. Doug and Shonn are going to Branson for a much needed rest and Shonn's parents ar keeping the boys next week. Nichole picked Ryan up around 10 and the silence seems strange.
Signed up for Sam's card today. Lots of oppertunity to get things in bulk for church related activities. Free internet thingy which allows you to see and talk to other Skypers on your computer. Also can talk around the world on regular phone but I can already do that.
Another short night. Sometimes I wake up in the night and can't go back to sleep. Usually watch TV, read or do crossword puzzles. Tonight it's blogging.
I'm trying to set it up where it will show up on Facebook when I post a blog. This will be the first try. Let me know if it works.
